Build
First Class Gym and Stairwell
To match this superstructure to the previous one, I masked off the ‘fidley’ grates and airbrushed them with Vallejo Model Air 71.057 Black acrylic paint:
Next, I airbrushed the entire interior of this superstructure with the same black paint to block any light leak:
I wiped off any overspray with an isopropyl alcohol dampened cotton ball which provided a nice black wash to the exterior surfaces as well:
Then, as before, I used Vallejo Game Wash 73.201 Black to fill in the tiny holes of the Swan-Neck Vent and bring out the details. Finally, I hand-painted the exposed opening of the two Cowled Vents in this issue with Vallejo Model Air 71.270 Off-White acrylic paint.
Step 1
In a similar way to the previous decking we have installed, carefully remove the backing paper from the Decking and secure it to the Superstructure of the Stairwell, aligning all of the holes.
This Decking is to be attached to the top of the Superstructure of the Stairwell, as shown. Be gentle when handing the Decking – if it is bent too much, the wood may splinter or snap off between the planks. Again, I sprayed the underside of the Decking with a light coat of 3M General Purpose 45 Spray Adhesive, then gently aligned the Decking in place and pressed it down flat, as shown. I used the side of a marker pen to ‘roll’ the Decking nice and flat:
Step 2
Press the two pins of the Swan-Neck Vent (16C) into the matching holes at this location on the Superstructure, as shown.
These two holes are different sizes, so this will only fit one way. As before, I am not gluing any of these detail parts into place as I may replace them later:
Step 3
Press the two pins of the Cowled Vent A (16A) into the matching holes at this location on the Superstructure, as shown.
Again, these two holes are different sizes, so this will only fit one way:
Step 4
Press the two pins of the Cowled Vent B (16B) into the matching holes at this location on the Superstructure, as shown.
Likewise, these two holes are different sizes, so this will only fit one way:
Thoughts
This section of the superstructure actually contained the first class entrance lobby as well. We will be adding more to this assembly in the next few issues, so keep it (and the unused Ventilator Hood) nearby.
